WNC Nature Center in Asheville

In the next few days I will let you all in on another hidden jewel here in Asheville that is outstanding for taking children for an outdoor (sorta) adventure.

Hidden along the banks of the Swannanoa River (try typing that fast) at 75 Gashes Creek Road in East Asheville, its a wonderful zoo type atmosphere with most of the wildlife you expect to see out in the woods, from bears to wolves, coyotes, foxes, cougars and birds.  There is also a petting zoo for the children.  Oh, and the main event are the river otters with plenty of underwater views to watch them play.

In addition, for me, is the Trillium Gap Trail, a 1/2 mile loop that takes you back to the time when Asheville was all forest and rivers.  Plenty of photo ops with wildflowers!!!!!

Stay tuned, but first some more pictures.  Have a great weekend,

Happy Hiker!
